Coho Worship
Aye, it was a cold, snowy, wet day but a great group of about 45 hearty souls showed up to welcome and cheer the the returning coho and see the old year out and usher the new year in. Writers, loggers, educators, scientists, students……, it was a meeting of old fiends and new.
About five live, spawning fish were seen, and the remains of about ten more showed that many had passed through before, during the recent high water.
The new westside trail, recently built by students was a great enhancement to the fish watching adventures, giving new vantage points and allowing for a loop walk.
The day was capped off with a ceremonial tree falling and milling – sending some of out youngest visitors home with fresh lumber and plans to build a boat from it. Stay tuned.
